Nantes is a beautiful city in western France located on the Loire River. I only had a few hours to spend on a stop over visit. So what can you do in a few hours?

Well, there is so much to choose from including a visit to the Machines de I’lle, a fantastic cultural site full of art and sculpture or to visit the Jules Verne Museum – yes – Jules Verne – the writer of the ultimate adventure story “Around the World in 80 Days” and another famous one, “Journey to the Center of the Earth”. I remember these from my childhood.

Another place to stop by, which is the focus of this article, is the Ille de Versaille Japanese Gardens.  Adjacent to the River Loire the Japanese gardens are serene and magnificent. You can watch the boats float by the gardens on their trips down the Loire to the Estuaire Nantes and back to Saint Nazare. The estuary provides a confluence for the River Erdre and River Loire at the edge of the Atlantic Ocean.

It’s a beautiful place and right in the heart of Nantes. You can’t go wrong with a visit to the Japanese Gardens.
